News: Flood alert for Kangar, Klang, Larkin, Kuantan Bypass

KUALA LUMPUR: People living in the vicinity of Sungai Repoh in Kampung Repoh, Kangar and the Klang River estuary in Klang are advised to be on the alert for floods.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department’s website said the water levels in the two locations have exceeded the warning levels of 4.19 metres and 2.95 metres respectively as of 9pm on Saturday.

Heavier than normal rainfall was also recorded in Larkin, Johor Baru and around the Kuantan Bypass in Kuantan, at 60mm and 41mm respectively.

Residents in the two areas are also at risk of floods.

Meanwhile, the National Safety Council said that the number of flood victims in Selangor has decreased to 779 people from 893 earlier in the day.

In Perak, 33 victims still remain sheltered at Sekolah Agama Rakyat, Kampung Padang Serai, Manjung while in Sarawak, five victims are sheltered at Dewan Suarah Marudi. -Bernama
