Shopee Malaysia Put Up an Effort to Educate their Customers about Flood Preparation
While Malaysia is facing the threat of flooding due to the Triple La Nina, Negative Indian Ocean Dipole, Typhoons, and Northeast Monsoon, it is great to see that one of the local e-commerce platform is taking proactive initiative to educate their customer about the early preparation for flooding events.
After the 2021 great central Malaysia floods that caused billion Ringgit of lost to the country, Malaysia government and all its agencies has taken strong initiative to prepare for the 2022 flood events, especially during the northeast monsoon. We have also observed many NGOs are in preparation for the flood as well.
Normally for the private sectors always take good initiative to assist the flood victims after the flooding event, but this time, we have seen Shopee, one of the leading B to C e-commerce platform is taking proactive initiative to put up a section on the early flood preparation. This is indeed a very encouraging move as people is preparing to fight for the 11.11 Super Sales, they should always remember that the risks of flooding is there, and they should remember to do some shopping for the emergency goods.

However, on the Desktop version, not much information is provide at the Shopee Home page like what they details that provided in the Mobile App. Hope Shopee will be able to look into it and further update their desktop content. Anyway, it is good to know that such a popular E-Commerce is taking initiative in the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities. We hope that other online platform can follow the same initiative in disaster prepareness.
