Latest Weather and Haze Situation

There were scattered rain showers over the northern ASEAN region today. In the southern ASEAN region, it was generally dry except for isolated showers over the northern parts of Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra, and in Sabah. In Sumatra, hotspots with smoke haze were observed in the provinces of Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra and Lampung. Dense smoke haze was observed to emanate from clusters of hotspots in Jambi. In Riau, moderate to dense smoke haze was also observed from persistent hotspots there. Significant smoke haze emitted from these hotspots has been blown toward Peninsular Malaysia by the prevailing winds. In Kalimantan, widespread smoke haze continued to shroud many parts of West, Central and South Kalimantan. Moderate to dense smoke haze continued to be observed from hotspot clusters in these provinces. Driven by the prevailing winds, the smoke haze from hotspots in West Kalimantan continued to affect western Sarawak and was extending over the adjacent South China Sea area.
