Additional 290,865 households to be affected by phase 3 of water rationing

CYBERJAYA: An additional 290,865 households in the Klang Valley will face water rationing beginning Monday.

This will come into effect under the third phase of the water rationing schedule unveiled by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) and Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) on Friday.

The second phase, which started on March 2, involved 431,167 households.

With the implementation of the third phase of water rationing, it is estimated that a total of 3.6mil people will be affected.

“The water level in the Sungai Selangor dam has dropped 2.25m within a week, and is at 194.1m today.

“The percentage of active storage, as of today (Friday), has dropped 3.66% to 43.24%, as compared to 46.9% last week.

“In line with the standard operating procedure of the dam, the Selangor government has decided to reduce the release of raw water (from the dam) from 200 million litres per day to 500 million litres per day,” SPAN chief executive officer Datuk Teo Yen Hua said in a press conference here on Friday.
