The Star, 22 Oct 2013

IPOH: The flood situation in the Manjung district worsened with nearly 1,000 victims evacuated to four relief centres.

Pantai Remis Fire and Rescue Station chief, Mohd Asri Mohd Ariff, said 911 of the victims were from Taman Bintang Kampung Ujung Pasir, Kampung Pantai Tin, Taman Pantai Wang, Kampung Tebuk Yan, Parit Marikan and Batu 13 Segari.

“As at 7pm (Monday), the number of flood victims evacuated to the Tebuk Yan community hall had risen to 75 and at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Batu, to 590,” he told Bernama.

He said the number of evacuees at the Taman Bintang community hall rose to 188 from 146 and to 58 at Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai.

He expected the flood situation to further worsen as the flood water levels remained the same.

Besides heavy rain, the high-tide phenomenon has also contributed to the flood situation. – Bernama
