News: Bentong, Bera and Sibu residents warned of imminent floods

KUALA LUMPUR: The Drainage and Irrigation Department has advised people in Rembau (Negri Sembilan), Melaka Tengah (Malacca), Bentong, Bera (Pahang) and Sibu (Sarawak) to be on the alert for floods as rivers had breached the danger level in these areas.

The department said on its portal that as at 9am, readings in Sungai Rembau in Titian Bintangor, Rembau was 6.40 metres; Lencongan Sungai Malim in Klebang Besar, Melaka Tengah 1.83 metres; Empangan Repas in Bentong 113.67 metres; Sungai Triang in Triang Bera 34 metres and Sarawak Maritime in Sibu 2.85 metres, all above the danger point.

Meanwhile, the National Security Council said 66 flood victims from 18 families were still housed at two flood relief centres in Selangor, namely in Gombak and Kuala Langat.

In Gombak, a family of eight people remained at Surau Kampung Laksamana, Gombak while 58 people from 17 families are housed at Dewan Genting Sanyen, Kuala Langat.

According to the portal, areas affected by floods were Kampung Laksamana, Kampung Sungai Kertas, Kampung Mahkota, Indian Settlement, Kampung Arab, Kampung Gantian Sungai Tua, Kampung Nakhoda in the Gombak district; Jalan Kebun and Bukit Changgang in Kuala Langat. – Bernama
