KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims in Selangor and Malacca staying at relief centres on Saturday morning rose to 1,014 compared with 996 on Friday night.
According to the National Security Council’s flood portal, Selangor showed a rise in the number of flood victims from 878 last night to 938 as of 10.48am.
The victims comprised 247 families in Selangor who were staying at four relief centres in Kuala Langat and one each in Sepang and Kuala Selangor.
In Malacca, the number of flood victims rose to 76 compared with 61 on Friday. However, only one relief centre was open in statewide, in Jasin where 15 families had been evacuated.
In Johor, the portal stated that the number of victims stood at 439 with six evacuation centres being opened in Batu Pahat.
Meanwhile, the Drainage and Irrigation Department’s portal said the water level at two major rivers in Selangor, namely Sungai Langat in Bukit Changgang and Sungai Selangor in Kuala Badong, had exceeded the danger level and members of the public staying near the area were advised to be wary. – Bernama
