IPOH: A mudslide hit Taman Lapangan Ria here, damaging 47 houses.

“The mud and rainwater were knee-high,” said a resident, Lai Yang Kheong, of the aftermath to an early Sunday morning downpour.

The 58-year-old claimed that mud flowed into their homes from three nearby housing projects where earthworks were being carried out.

This was the second mudslide which affected Taman Lapangan Ria this year, he said.

“We have sleepless nights whenever it rains,” Lai said.

“This is especially so ever since the housing projects commenced on a nearby hill last year,” he said.

Another resident, housewife Chai Nyet Hun, 49, said three laptops, which were on the floor, were damaged when muddy water entered her home.

Sungai Rapat assemblyman Datuk Hamidah Osman, who visited the residents yesterday, said the state government would give the developers three days to come up with a solution.
